I earned a bachelor's degree in Business and Marketing at Grand Valley State University. Eight years ago, I earned an alternative certification for fourth through eighth grades, and I have been working as a teacher since then. I am now working on completing a master's degree in Educational Leadership, with the goal of becoming an administrator.I have been teaching science in sixth and seventh grade for the past seven years. I love to teach the subject because it is hands-on. As a teacher, I have worked with students who have various abilities and learning styles. Over the years, I have tutored students outside of class to expand their learning or to help them catch up in class.When I first start working with a student, I like to develop a relationship. This helps to make the learning environment a comfortable place for the student. I also believe in building their confidence in themselves and their abilities in learning. I think that a tutor is important for all types of students, not only those who are struggling.I use brain-based teaching with my students because the more that students see information, the higher the chance of it becoming part of their long term memory. I tutor students up to eighth grade in social studies, math, and science. My love and expertise are in science and that makes it my favorite tutoring subject.
